Desired Landscapes is a pocket-sized magazine that talks about cities and explores their diverse visual culture. It is a “collection of person-to-place bonds, critical texts, archival material, maps and poetic snapshots.” Issue 05 takes you to Phnom Penh – Berlin – San Diego – Rijeka –Dubrovnik – Sevarambes – Athens – Sydney – Manama – Casablanca – Sifnos – and a city guide on SEOUL.

Desired Landscapes also plans and conducts walking tours in Athens taking you deep into the visual – often hidden – culture, focusing on “typography, oral history, urbanism and the vernacular.”

WAYS TO DESTROY AN IMAGE 


This is a book about glitches, happy accidents, and ways to destroy. It is a recording of the process of destroying images manipulated in software not meant for image manipulation. File formats, software, and the amount of times destroyed uncover different components of the digital image.
The glitch reveals the material of the image as it erodes pixel by pixel.

The book is accompanied by an audiovisual of the extractions from the pixelated “destroyed” images and the glitching sounds these images made when opened in the audio-editing program Audacity. Watch full video here︎︎︎

TSAK BAM / CAFE


Tsak Bam is a branding and packaging project for a cafe set to be based in the Athenian hip neighborhood of Koukaki in Greece. The shop seeks to pay homage to the retro comics and magazine ads of the 50s, in a modern adaptation of their vernacular styles. The name itself reminisces on those illustrated sounds that fill 50s comic book pages in a greek twist. “Tsak Bam” is a greek interjection which means to do something really quickly. In the nature of its name the shop functions as a quick in-n’-out stop for early risers heading to work in the morning.

DESIRED TINOS / MAP & ITINERARIES


“This guide is all about the genuine face” of the Greek island, Tinos. Desired Tinos contains itineraries and tours as well as a map of the island and its 48 villages. It refers to the crafts and local products of each village that display the variety of culture the island has to offer from its woven baskets to its marble from the quarry. Apart from this, the map depicts the island’s vernacular design and architecture that fully envelop the island’s character.

KYRINI / HONEY


KYRINI honey is a family owned business that specializes in nomadic beekeeping. The logo design is inspired from the ancient myth of the nymph named Cyrene who bore Aristaeus – the god of bee-keeping. The packaging consists of hand-drawn digital illustrations of plants and herbs used in the production of Kyrini’s honey. The overall branding focuses on the natural, organic production of the honey. Kyrini’s honey comes from various parts of Greece, and the location is hand-written individually for each jar.
